Quilt By Marg Sawler
Marg Sawler is a member of The Motley Cru. This is her quilt.  She is also a painter
involved with the Nova Scotia Decorative Artists.  Marg loves to work with bali’s and
bright colours.  This pattern is from Piecemakers Quilter’s – Times and Seasons
Calendar 1999.  The calendar is no longer available but pattern packs are available
from your local Quilt Store (check out our
resources page for a location close to you).
The pieces were fused using trans-web and then satin stitched by machine.  Note all
the embellishments. The machine quilting was done by Donna Hazelton (SaltSeams
Quilting Studio www.SaltSeams.ca) on a long arm machine.  There are even little foot
prints in the sand.   Marg won first prize in the machine category for this quilt at the
Lawrencetown Exhibition 2007.  Congratulations Marg.

Quilt by Marilyn Cote
This quilt was machine pieced and appliquéd by Marilyn Cote. Marilyn is one of our
Motley Cru.  Every quilt tells a story.  Marilyn pieced and appliquéd this quilt for the love
of her life Reg Cote.  Reg had a passion for moose.  Reg was a character who was
larger than life and teased all of us Motley’s.

Wasn’t he just so proud of his wife’s talents in quilting.  He succumbed to cancer
after a short but brave battle this summer.   The machine quilting was done by Donna
Hazelton (SaltSeams Quilting Studio www.SaltSeams.ca) on a long arm machine.

Through the Woods
This quilt is from a book called All Through the Woods.  It was machine pieced and
machine quilted by The Bernina Lady.  Each year in March the small town of Berwick,
Nova Scotia and surrounding areas hold an Auction to raise money for the new
“Appledome” Arena in Berwick.  The Bernina Lady has pieced and quilted a quilt or
wall hanging for this auction every year for the last 4 years.  The quilt this year was
purchased by Marilyn Cote for her husband Reg.  What a feeling to have someone
you love and care about purchase one of your quilts.

Appliqué Garden Party
This small table runner is part of Bernina Classes.  It shows all the different methods
of appliqué – blanket stitch, satin stitch and mock hand appliqué stitch.

Boo to You Too
Small quilt embroidered to show off embroidery designs by Cheri Strole.  One
embroidery also used from House Mouse Design CD.  Note that the cobwebs were
embroidered on black tulle and then attached to quilt with free motion stitching.

Chatelaine
A class given to our new machine owners to learn various techniques by machine.  A
small pin cushion holds your pins and there are two small pockets; one for your stitch
ripper and one for your scissors.

Christmas Favorites
Inspiration came from a quilting magazine.  Instead of using appliqués on the
hexagons we chose to embroider the designs.  Twin needle quilting, raw edge
appliqué and decorative stitches are all used to quilt this design.  Jolly Ol’ St. Nick by
Susan Winget designed the embroideries for Bernina.

Countdown to Christmas
This project was in the Bernina Publication of Through the Needle.  Embroidery was a
free download that was available from the Bernina website (www.berninausa.com).
Chalkboard fabric was used so you can change the countdown.

Denim Jacket
Inspiration came from a magazine.  Embroidery CD used for this jacket was Quilting
Fancy by Diane Gaudynski.

Different Threads/Same Embroidery
This was a sampling of threads used to show how different threads can change the
look of your embroidery.  Embroidery CD used for this sample was Quilting Fancy by
Diane Gaudynski.

Tuxedo Cat
The Bernina Lady admits to being a critter person so this was just purrfect in her
eyes.  Its machine pieced and quilted.

Spirit of Christmas
This pattern is from Mount ReDoubt called Spirit of Christmas.  It was all pieced and
then shapes were fused on afterwards.  Bali fabrics were again used.   This quilt
belongs to Marg Sawler.   Isn’t it just delicious?

Wild Card Shuffle
This quilt resembles a “crazy quilt” so we used the pretty stitches in our machine to
quilt this.  It’s very simple and doesn't take long.
